KATHRYN MOORE Played by Jodie Rimmer Kathryn and Mel have been friends since Kathryn joined the law firm three years ago. They quickly bonded - a small sisterhood in the male-dominated system - and became as thick as thieves, although it sometimes irked painstaking, conscientious Mel that Kathryn was a 'Golden Girl' - one of those annoying people who sailed through her work with a minimum of effort. Kathryn's in her mid-twenties, single and spunky. From a rural background, she has - at least for the moment - escaped her affluent, farm-based family to pursue a career, and more than a few men, in the city. It's crossed Melissa's mind that her friend is somewhat self-centered, adhering to hedonism as a form of religious belief. Mel also worries that Kath's fierce loyalty may be linked in some way to the supply of booze and beefcake available at wholesale rates through Mel. After a long and testing time (during which Kathryn tests a surprising number of Mel's staff) Kathryn arrives at a point where she begins to wonder if her partner of the moment might be 'The One'. For Kathryn (and us) this is a surprising development. Can she seriously be thinking about abandoning the bed and bar-hopping routine which she has brought to the level of performance art? Inevitably she meets a man who is somehow different to all the other men she's dated. We see Kathryn struggling to come to grips with a relationship which has lasted more than two weeks. Are we watching Kath fall in love? As her journey continues we see the former party girl wrestling with the heavyweight problems of co-habitation and commitment, and along with Kathryn we are invited to speculate - which side of her nature will win out in the end?
